As part of the code of ethics by which medical staff’s actions are governed, any information reviewed as part of the doctor / patient relationship will be treated in the strictest confidence. It is the duty of all practice staff to maintain that confidentiality at all times.
All information whether held manually or on computer is covered by the Data Protection Act 2018. However sometimes we have to share information with other health professionals such as district nurses or hospitals, but is strictly monitored on a ‘need to know’ basis only.
