Winter Wellbeing Resources in Dudley

Winter can bring extra challenges, especially for older adults and people with long- term health conditions. Dudley Council has rolled out its ‘winter wellbeing’ campaign, with information and support so that people can be prepared and stay active, warm and well during winter. Here are five ways to winter wellbeing:

  • Eat well – hot, nourishing meals like soups and stews can keep you warm and provide essential nutrients. Include seasonal veggies to keep cost low and stay hydrated with 6-8 glasses of fluids every day.
  • Move more – get outside regularly if weather permits. Wrap up warm and wear shoes with good grip and support. Move regularly at home with gentle exercises.
  • Connect with others – join local groups for activities and socialising. Regular chats or visits can make a big difference.
  • Keep warm – heat your home by aiming for at least 18 c (64 F) in the rooms you use most. Use a draught excluder to keep heat in and layer up in several thin layers which is better than one thick layer.
  • Look out for one another – check on your friends, family and neighbours particularly during bad weather. Keep updated on the weather forecast by signing up to alerts on www.metoffice.gov.uk
